Quarrying
/ Mining
CORAL STONE, a natural stone which is rich in calcium carbonate is mined from
quarries using explosives and earth-moving machinery to loosen and transport
the raw material.
Crushing
The raw material is put in a crusher to reduce it's size and make it easier
to proportion with other materials in the later stages of raw mix preparation.
Raw
Mills
All the raw materials used to produce clinker, namely : iron ore, coralstone,
shale and bauxite are milled together in calculated ratios to produce a fine
powder
Milling
Clinker and a small amount of gypsum are fed into a ball mill where they are
ground into a fine power we call CEMENT. Other additives like pozzolana and
filler are added to the mill depending on the type of cement being manufactured.
Kilning
Raw meal is fed into the kiln and burned at a temperature of 900C at the entrance
of the kiln and 1450C at the hottest zone. The material produced at this stage
is CLINKER and is cooled down by blowing cold air through a special chamber.
Coal and oil are fuels used to burn the raw meal.
Packaging
Cement is distributed to consumers in bulk using bulkers, or as bagged, in
which case we use packaging machines to pack the cement into 50kg bags.
Cement is transported by road, rail and sea to our consumers within and outside
our country.
