Savani triumphs at Sigona Club

BAIJU Savani last weekend shot impressive 41 points to win Bamburi Cement Golf Challenge Cup at Sigona Golf Club.

Savani, playing off handicap 13 carded 19 on first nine before going for his winning second nine of 22, beating Pankaj Patel by one point.
Pankaj, who brought 16 on front to round up with 20 on back nine stayed ahead of Karanja Njui (14) on count back with 40 points.

Njui shot stable rounds of 20 on each nine to also edge out forth-placed Ngure Kanjumba by one point. Kanjumba counted back father Morris Zerr.

Archna Patel snatched the ladies’ contest with a score of 40 points from rounds of 19 on first and 21 on second nine while Rushabh Shah went for the junior’s top award with 39 with rounds of 17 and 22 respectively.

Vet lab’s Peter Mohaya went away with the guests prize on 36 made of 16 and 20 after being M. G. Waweru on countback, as Tom Waiharo claimed staff contest with a scintillating 40.

Amar Dogra returned the best gross of 32 points, while Sandesh Shah won the first nine with 21 points with Atul Parmar going for the second nine on 23. Dilesh Bhayani shot the longest drive with Tushar Patel winning nearest to the pin prize.

At Kenya Railways, P. Kiharo and Betty Nyabuto seized the men and ladies’ championships during a fund-raising tournament on Saturday.

Kihato posted 20 on fist and 22 on second nine to win his fray on countback from N. W. Wachira (21,21) on countback with 42 points. F. Chege with rounds o 18 and 22 wound third on a four-way countback from P. Kamau (18,22), J. Gatharia (19,21), P. Mwaura (20,20) and J. G. Iracha (22,18) respectively.

On her part, Nyabuto fired 36 (20,16) to beat by one point from Rita Njeru (17,18), as G. Gatere finished third (14,20) after counting back C. Ndegwa (17,17) and L. Njuguna (18,16) with 34 points.

J. Kanaiya and M. Ogwapit won the nines with 22 points each while the gross winner was J. M. Mungai with 31 points.

13-handicapper wins Bamburi tournament

A superb finish at the back nine saw Baiju Savani emerge the overall winner of the Bamburi Gold Challenge at Sigona Golf Club.

The 13-handicapper posted 19 points in the opening nine then notched an impressive 22 points at the back nine for a total of 41 which gave him a one-point over runner up Pankaj Patel who beat Karanja Njui on countback.

Ngure Kanjumba was fourth on 39 points after a countback with Morris Zerr. Archana Patel scooped the women’s prize after posting 40 points during the competition held on Saturday.

In the junior division, Rushabh Shah scored 39 and gross winner Amar Dogra fired 32. the guest title went to Peter Muhaya with 36 points after he beat Michael Gitau Waweru on countback.

Tom Waiharo won the staff prize on 40 points while the nines were won by Sandesh Shah and Atul Parmar on 21 and 23 points. The tournament was sponsored by Bamburi Cement.

During the Kenya Diabetes Management and Information Centre (DMI) Charity tournament on Friday, Dennis Mureithi posted 40 points to win by a point from D. Waiganjo who beat J. W. Wambugu on countback.

Fourth-placed R. Shako scored 38 points, beating Washington Nteere and A. Kalsi on countback. Nguru Wachira scored 37 points to settle for the seventh prize after a countback with C. G. Wambugu. The women’s winner, Lucie Maina, scored 35 points.
Eldoret: B. Simwa was the best qualifier in the Yes Festival of Golf Northern regional qualifying round, with 38 points. S. Otiende, scored 36 points and was placed second after a countback with S. Sorathia and Kunal Shah.

The nines went to P. L. Aggarwal and B. H. Shah with 19 and 21, while V. Lodhia scooped the junior title on 38.

P. W. Ndumia was the guest winner on 33 points.
